Workshop Description

We all face client's with large and small traumas and watched as it affects their lives years after the difficult moments have passed. In truth, every therapist is a trauma therapist. Learning to help your clients unwind trauma from their subcortical brains will be helpful in guiding their healing. In this course, we will explore the neurological underpinning of implicit memory. We will look at how these memories are created, organized and solidified. We will look at how, when they are created in times of trauma, the learnings lead to perceptions, beliefs and actions that create stress and pain for ourselves and others. We will also understand the neurological process that can unlearn beliefs that are no longer working. We will explore an essential therapeutic stance needed to create the kind of space in which your client's brain is most likely to unlearn and you will leave knowing the steps needed for this natural neurological phenomenon to be invited and guided by the therapist. We will also explore the role of grief in all trauma work and think about ways to identify grief avoidance in your clients as well as strategies to invite your clients into their grief process. You will have a chance to grow your curiosity about your own countertransference with grief and define ways you might push into grief or avoid it in your work with those who have been through all kinds of trauma.

Target Audience: Psychologists, Social Workers, MFTs, graduate-level Counselors, Psychotherapists

Meet the Presenter, Juliane Taylor Shore, LPC-S, LMFT-S, SEP

Juliane Taylor Shore, LPC-S, LMFT-S, SEP, (AKA Jules) is a therapist and trainer of therapists in Austin, Texas. She specializes in applying Interpersonal Neurobiology to the healing of trauma and the creation of relational health with the people who come and see her.

In addition to seeing weekly clients and teaching, Jules offers intensives for couples and for individuals who come from all over to do depth work in a brief format.

Jules graduated with a Master of Arts in Counselling from the St. Edwards University in Austin Texas. Jules is an EMDR trained therapist, Internal Family Systems trained therapist, and Relational Life Therapy Certified Therapist.

Jules became a therapist because she stumbled into a therapist's office when she was in a hard space, fought with him for several months over whether or not feelings are important (she argued they were not), and found herself at the other end, transformed. So, she went to grad school and studied neuroscience to try to prove herself wrong... and here she is writing, speaking, running intensive trauma recovery sessions, and relational healing workshops and couple's intensives, all while teaching Interpersonal Neurobiology to anyone who will listen to her. She has always been passionate about relationships and relational health.

Jules is passionate about her husband, daughter, and dog. She loves her dear friends who know all of her, and don't turn away. She is passionate about poetry - her favorite poem of the moment is Poppies, by Mary Oliver. She is in love with this Earth and all of the people in it. Jules is incredibly passionate about welcoming us all, with all of our messiness, and with loving firmness that can create repeat and growth.
